The Headwaters of the Thames comprise seven catchments (as defined under the Water Frameworks Directive): the Thames and all its tributaries from the source to the Goring Gap, where the river passes between the Chilterns and the North Wessex Downs. The catchments are: the Upper Thames, the Windrush, the Evenlode, the Cherwell, the Ray, the Thame and the Ock. This map shows the outline of the Thames Headwaters watershed with the individual catchments outlined in green, and the boundary of Oxfordshire shown in red for contrast. The map shows contours 20 m apart, water bodies, and woodland – the basic outlines of the land. The principal built up areas are shaded in grey and named.
